Including my uncle's shop in #trustlocalproject #trustlocalsd was a no-brainer. He is one of the kindest, most generous men I've ever known and I still have a functioning bike after five years of Burning Man thanks solely to him.
I shot San Diego Bike Shop this week, located at 619 C Street in downtown. My friend, Curt, got his electric bike from my uncle Mo this year. At Burning Man, Curt says to me, "why the hell aren't you pimping out your uncle more? These bikes are great. They're playa tested and they're the same price as Amazon. And we get great personal service from a human being and we get to support local businesses." And I was like huh...
Well let the pimping commence! Burner or not, go see Mo and tell him I sent you.
So I’m starting this new thing aimed at local small businesses in need of photography. Ones with physical structures such as stores, restaurants and offices.
I’m calling it the Trust Local Project.
You pay however much you want and when you can.
No negotiations. No contracts. No billing.
The amount and increments are totally up to you.
I’m aiming at doing one or two single-day two-hour shoots per week and trusting that it’ll all balance out. I believe in people. I trust my city and community.
For small business owners, I believe that it’s not a lack of need or budget that holds them back from booking photo shoots. It that it all just feels a bit overwhelming. You’re already juggling 50 things and the thing that seems like should be the most fun (like a photoshoot) keeps getting bumped down the priority list.
So you may finally go through the process of finding a photographer and then negotiating a final project cost (shoot me) and then finally booking them and signing contracts and all that mess... Then I’ve found that a lot of clients get “shoot day anxiety.” Everything has to be absolutely perfect, the whole staff needs to be there, etc.
So I wanted to find a way to remove all those obstacles and just shoot. Because it really should be fun! And when it’s not, it shows in the final product.
This project is aimed specifically at San Diego brick and mortar small businesses. If you are an owner or know owners who need new photos, visit mrarash.com/trust-local.
Stop delaying. Let's just freakin' shoot already and stop stressing about the details.
I’m psyched to launch this new experiment with my first #trustlocalsd client: Mid Century. We’ll be shooting 11/21/18 around noon. Come check out the store and be an extra!
